YOUR ARTHRITIS WELLNESS BLUEPRINT

YOUR ARTHRITIS WELLNESS BLUEPRINT

When you are dealing with any chronic illness, including arthritis, you should always prioritize your wellness.  Let’s define wellness as the maintenance of your physical, mental, and spiritual quality of life.  For arthritis, your well-being will depend on your ability to remain physically active for occupation, daily tasks, and “fun” activities.  Meanwhile, you should feel happy and content about your condition and your outlook for the future.

STEP 1: GET CONTROL OF YOUR SYMPTOMS

Your initial goal is to get your symptoms under control.  To get the most immediate relief, you will need a regimen of medications and rest from physical activity.  Regular follow ups with your doctor will be necessary to make whatever adjustments are needed to maintain control with the least amount of medications possible.  The collaboration you have with your doctor will help maintain the feeling that you are in control of the arthritis.

STEP 2: EMPOWER YOURSELF THROUGH HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

Your lifestyle plays a huge role in your long-term health when you have arthritis.  You must immediately eliminate bad habits and unhealthy health habits, aiming to live as “clean” as possible.  Stop smoking, avoid unhealthy foods, get yourself to an ideal weight, and eat as healthy as you can.  The effort you take will make you feel physically stronger, and you will have the spiritual satisfaction that you are making the most of every day to help manage and control your arthritis.

STEP 3: LIVE YOUR LIFE

Arthritis may present challenges from time to time as you experience ups and downs.  Learn to work around your symptoms and setbacks.  Regardless of good or bad days, stay active and engaged in what makes you happy.  Spend as much quality time you can with friends and family. On bad days, find ways to stay plugged in with loved ones even if you have to lay low.  Find a few different types of hobbies or sports that you can juggle according to how you are feeling.  Volunteer some time helping people less fortunate than you to maintain perspective.  Stay hopeful by always putting a positive spin on what you are able to accomplish from day to day.  Live an active life despite your arthritis rather than letting your arthritis control you.

STEP 4: STAY CONNECTED

To successfully deal with arthritis, you will need to stay connected to different types of support.   Communicate with your doctors so that they can help you control your arthritis and maintain your health.  Seek out and participate in arthritis peer groups regularly.  Build and maintain your social support among your loved ones.  All of these lines of support will provide you with helpful ways to stay empowered so that your daily demands are balanced with a strong mental outlook.
