WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF ARTHRITIS?
- Pain: pain is the main feature that defines arthritis. Pain can range from sharp and severe to dull and mild. Often, the pain is worse with movement. The pain may be in one or several joints, depending on the type of arthritis.
- Swelling: arthritis may cause fluid buildup in the joint.
- Stiffness: the joint may feel rigid and difficult to move, especially in the morning.
- Other symptoms: Each type of arthritis may have some specific features. For instance, gout has uric acid crystals in the fluid, lupus has a very particular facial rash, and infectious arthritis can have fevers. Some types of arthritis affect other parts of the body like the skin, eyes, kidneys, etc.
