GETTING SUPPORT FOR ARTHRITIS

GETTING SUPPORT FOR ARTHRITIS

When you have arthritis, you may start to feel alone and isolated at times as you privately deal with the ups and downs that come and go.  It is important to keep lines of support available to help you cope.

YOUR DOCTOR:  Your medical team will provide the main support as you manage your arthritis symptoms.  If you develop new or worsening symptoms, flare-ups, or medication side effects, keep in contact with your doctors. You do not have to deal with these issues on your own.  Your healthcare providers can provide you with everything from medications to therapies to words of encouragement to help get you through any difficulties you encounter.

YOUR FAMILY:  You may start to feel like you are a burden to those around you when dealing with a chronic illness.  But your loved ones want to see you happy, and you all can thrive on togetherness.  Staying connected with your family has its own healing power for your mind and spirit that will make coping much easier.

YOUR FRIENDS:  Social networks are essential for your quality of life. Your friends can encourage you to be more active when your arthritis makes you want to just sit at home.  Planning simple activities that keep you on your feet can do wonders to maintain your health.

YOUR PEERS:  Arthritis support groups are great for helping you find collectively find solutions for the commonly encountered difficult feelings and emotions that you face.  The stories of experiences you share can teach you how to approach challenges more effectively.
