WHAT CAN CAUSE JOINT PAIN

A joint consists of bones that are connected together by ligaments.  The joint consists of the, ligaments, muscles, tendons, and cartilage that have specific roles in joint function.  Injury, damage, or inflammation in any of these areas can cause pain.

Arthritis occurs because of problems that occur specifically within the space between the bones.

Ligament injuries ranging from overstretching to partial and complete tears can cause pain in and around the joints.

Muscle strains and tears can occur, causing pain near and around the joint, but not within the joint itself.  Tendons attach muscles to bones, and can cause similar pain near the joints.
