STAYING MENTALLY STRONG WITH ARTHRITIS

Arthritis is a physical disease with mental challenges.  Dealing with ongoing pain and physical limitations can be emotionally overwhelming at times.   Your mind can help manage and even overcome your arthritis symptoms.  

THINK POSITIVE:  many studies show that an optimism can improve your health, and could also decrease your arthritis pain symptoms.   Emphasize positivity throughout the day in your thought and actions. 

KEEP YOURSELF BUSY:  Arthritis may have ups and downs that prevent you from doing your favorite activities.  During days or periods of downtime because of arthritis, watch a movie, read a book, or take an online class to stay productive and engaged.

STICK TO YOUR TREATMENT PLAN:  Keep your appointments with your doctors, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and be consistent with medications and other treatments.   Having your symptoms under control will enable you to do more physical activities with less pain.  When you know you are doing everything in your power to control your athtis

STAY CONNECTED:  People with chronic conditions can easily become isolated from others.  Set up virtual or in-person meetups regularly with friends and family.  Fun, interactive sessions are great for emotional fulfillment.

GET HELP:  Arthritis can be associated with mental health disorders like depression or anxiety that require medical care.  Check in with a psychiatrist or psychologist if you are having ongoing psychological challenges that interfere with your ability to cope with your arthritis symptoms.
